Neurostar Multispeciality Hospital, Kakinada: OP Process, Fees, Services and Tariff Guide

A first-hand visit report, so you know what to expect before you go

When someone in the family needs a neurosurgeon, the questions come quickly. Where do we go? How does the consultation work? What will it cost? On 23 October 2026, I visited Neurostar Multispeciality Hospital in Kakinada for an OP consultation and noted down everything I saw, from the registration process to the rates displayed on the walls. I hope this saves you time and worry.

How the OP consultation works

1. Register on the first floor. Patients go to the first floor to register for a consultation. Staff ask about your condition or the doctor you have an appointment with, and guide you to the right doctor’s room.

2. Basic health checks. After registration and before seeing the doctor, the staff check your blood pressure and weight, and sometimes your sugar level. These are quick, and they give the doctor a first picture of your health.

3. Wait for your turn. You are called in order. Footwear is not allowed inside the doctor’s room, so remove your slippers before you enter.

4. Meet the doctor. I had an appointment with Dr. M. Ashok Kumar, a neurosurgeon (brain and spine surgeon) and the chairman of the hospital. The qualifications displayed at the hospital are MBBS, DA, MS (General Surgery) and M.Ch (Neurosurgery). An assistant doctor sat in the room, recording the treatment notes and examining patients under the doctor’s supervision.

5. Get your medicines. The doctor suggested a few medicines, all available at the pharmacy on the first floor, so there is no need to look for a chemist outside.

Tip: The doctor asked for my previous health records. Carry all old reports, scans, prescriptions and discharge summaries. They help the doctor understand your history and decide on the right treatment.

OP timings and fees

Notices displayed at the hospital show Dr. Ashok Kumar’s OP timings as:

  • Morning: 12 noon to 3 PM
  • Evening: 7 PM to 8 PM

The fee board shows:

Type Fee
OP fee ₹700
OP fee (casualty bed) ₹1,000
Emergency OP fee (fast track, 15 minutes, conditions apply) ₹1,500

A note on fees: The board outside the doctor’s room shows ₹700, the general tariff list shows ₹500 for “OPD consultation,” and I paid ₹650 as a new registrant. Fees may vary by doctor and patient category, so please confirm at the registration counter.

Services available

The hospital’s “Scope of Services” board lists:

  • Departments: Anaesthesiology, Dental, General Medicine, General Surgery (including laparoscopic surgery), Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Diagnostics: CT scan, EEG, ultrasound scan and X-ray
  • Laboratory: Clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology, haematology and serology
  • Supportive services: Ambulance, physiotherapy and pharmacy

Services not available

The hospital also states clearly what it does not provide: cardiology, clinical autopsy, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care (NICU) and oncology. Knowing this in advance can save precious time, especially in an emergency.

Safety and patient information

Emergency codes are displayed near the reception, with colour codes such as Code Blue for cardiac arrest and Code Red for fire. The in-hospital emergency number is 212. Notices also request visitors to keep silent and speak softly inside the hospital.

The hospital’s displayed vision is “Right Care, Right Time,” and its mission is “to provide quick and quality healthcare at affordable cost.”

Quick tips before you visit

  • Carry all previous medical records, scans and prescriptions.
  • Arrive a little before OP hours, as registration and the BP and weight checks take time.
  • Wear footwear that is easy to remove.
  • Ask at reception which fee applies to your doctor and category.
  • For urgent cases, ask about the fast-track emergency OP option.
  • For heart conditions, cancer care, high-risk pregnancies or newborn intensive care, choose a hospital that offers those services.

Final thoughts

My visit was well organised: a clear registration process, quick initial checks, a consultation with a senior neurosurgeon, and an in-house pharmacy. I also appreciated that fees, services and even the services not available are displayed openly, in both Telugu and English. If you or your family need a neurological or spine consultation in Kakinada, I hope this guide helps you plan.
